Netizens Slam Gwyneth Paltrow for Controversial Housing Ad

Sven Kramer Jun 28, 2026

Gwyneth Paltrow has landed at the center of a heated online storm. The Oscar-winning actress and Goop founder, 53, is facing widespread criticism after appearing in a promotional campaign for a luxury residential development in Israel. The advertisement, released in June 2026, promotes 51 Park, a high-end 51-story tower being built in Herzliya, a coastal city just north of Tel Aviv. The campaign was meant to showcase elegance, exclusivity, and premium living. Instead, it triggered a fierce debate across social media.

The backlash erupted almost immediately after the commercial began circulating online. Critics argued that the campaign arrived at a particularly sensitive moment, with the war in Gaza and the ongoing humanitarian crisis dominating global headlines. Many viewers saw a sharp contrast between the luxury lifestyle being marketed and the suffering taking place only miles away. That contrast became the driving force behind the outrage.

Why the 51 Park Advertisement Triggered Such a Strong Reaction

Gwyneth / IG / The advertisement itself appears polished and straightforward. Filmed in New York, it follows Paltrow through a glamorous routine before highlighting the benefits of living near a park.

During the closing moments, a driver asks if the featured building is located in New York. Paltrow responds with a simple reveal: “Herzliya, Israel.” That brief exchange became the focal point of the controversy.

Many critics viewed the campaign as disconnected from current events. Social media users described the commercial as “tone deaf” and “dystopian,” arguing that promoting multimillion-dollar apartments during a devastating regional conflict showed a lack of awareness. Others accused the campaign of glamorizing wealth while civilians in Gaza continue to face enormous hardships. The criticism spread quickly across Instagram, X, and TikTok, turning a real estate advertisement into an international talking point.

The response extended beyond comments on the advertisement itself. Although Paltrow did not share the commercial on her personal social media accounts, users flooded recent Instagram posts with Palestinian flags and messages supporting Palestine.

Celebrities and Activists Join the Criticism

Alana / IG / Alana Hadid, sister of Bella and Gigi Hadid, shared criticism of the campaign and described it as “more than simply insensitive.”

Actor Geraldine Viswanathan and influencer Matt Bernstein also joined the conversation. Bernstein criticized the campaign as a symbol of excess and greed, while many activists argued that celebrities should be more careful about the projects they endorse during times of conflict. The growing list of critics transformed the issue from a celebrity controversy into a broader discussion about ethics and responsibility.

One of the strongest reactions came from environmental activist Livia Giuggioli, the former wife of actor Colin Firth. Giuggioli publicly condemned the advertisement and reportedly canceled a planned visit from Paltrow to her farm in Italy. She described the campaign as “unacceptable” and openly called for consequences.

Supporters Push Back Against the Outrage

Despite the intense criticism, Paltrow has also received support. Some commentators argued that the actress simply participated in a real estate campaign and should not be held responsible for broader political conflicts. Israeli author and influencer Hen Mazzig defended the decision, stating that appearing in an advertisement connected to Israel should not automatically become a career risk.

Supporters emphasized that the project is a residential development where families will live. They argued that critics were unfairly assigning political motives to a commercial endorsement. Several pro-Israel voices described the backlash as excessive and claimed it reflected a broader trend of targeting celebrities associated with Israel.

Actress Selma Blair publicly voiced support for Paltrow as well. Musician David Draiman also defended the actress, joining those who viewed the criticism as misplaced.

As we speak, the “Great Expectations” actress has not publicly addressed the controversy. Reports suggest the actress was surprised by the scale of the backlash. Sources close to the star told Page Six that, despite years of criticism surrounding Goop and other ventures, this reaction caught her off guard.
