10 Tips to Find the Perfect Balance Between Work and Play

Ami Ciccone Dec 02, 2020

As an adult and fully responsible for your financial independence, work can sometimes be quite a time-consuming ordeal. For improved professional prospects, you might even find yourself being indulged in your professional growth more than ever.

Yes, working overtime may get your daily tasks done and might make you shine in the eyes of your bosses, but it poses serious threats to your mental and physical health. To stay healthy, you must be able to create a balance between your professional and personal life.

Learn how to find that perfect balance and achieve a better lifestyle through these tips:

1.   Conscious Choices

Make good choices to properly manage your time between work, family, friends, and rest. Rather than thinking about the past, start focusing on living in the moment.

2.   Balance is Key

Prioritize your mental health and make sure to take some time off. If you’re 100% invested in your work, you will likely face burnout sooner, rather than later.

3.   Say No to Multitasking

Multitasking seems like it gets the job done, but in reality, it takes your focus from one task and spreads it amongst other tasks, which lowers the quality of your work.

4.   Know Yourself

Know when you are overburdened with work and cannot take up any more of it. The main thing to know that there are certain limits even to work. Piling up more than you can handle will do you no good at all.

5.   Self-Compassion

Human beings are wired to make mistakes. No one’s perfect. Rather than beating yourself over a shortcoming, you must learn from it and derive motivation to do better.

6.   Nature Therapy

Nothing soothes the mind and body like a good walk outside. After a long period of working at the desk, make sure to take a break to catch some fresh air. This will do a world of good for both your mental and physical health.

7.   Loosen Up

Every day, you must take out time, especially for yourself. Just a few minutes of exercise, a nap, and even reading can boost up your energy level.

8.   Friends, Family, And Fun

Make sure to take some time out for people who love and care for you. After working for a while, catch up with a friend or go for a walk with a family member. Sometimes little moments of conversation with your loved ones are enough to lighten the mental load.

9.   Find the Root Cause

If you’re a work addict, it’s time to address the main reason behind your addiction. This will require self-reflection and some time to focus on what can be done about it.

10.  Don’t Be Afraid To Reach Out For Help

If the work addiction does not seem to get better, reach out for help. You can either confide in a friend or join an online support group or even go for professional counseling.

At the end of the day, life is too short to spend it away working on a desk. You need to learn to step back and take time off that you rightfully deserve. After all, the work’s not going anywhere. But, the stress can really take its toll on your physical and mental health so, be good to yourself.
