Heated Rivalry’s Star Dylan Walsh Faces Trouble After Season 2 Cameo Slip

Fans of “Heated Rivalry” got an unexpected update about Season 2 when Dylan Walsh appeared to reveal details about the upcoming production.

The actor later clarified that his comments were not official and apologized after the remarks sparked questions about the show’s next chapter.

Walsh Addresses the Leak

Walsh, 62, plays David Hollander in the series, which is based on Rachel Reid’s novels. During a Cameo video, the actor casually mentioned that he was preparing to return to Canada to film more episodes.

“I was speaking off the cuff in a Cameo and should not have speculated about the production schedule or episode count,” Walsh told Variety in a statement on Thursday, August 13.

The actor also acknowledged that the comments caused confusion for both the production and its audience. He said he had “got in trouble” after sharing information that had not been officially announced.

“I don’t have any official information to announce, and I’m sorry for creating confusion for the production and the fans,” Walsh said. He added that his Cameo account had been paused and expressed appreciation for the strong response to “Heated Rivalry.”

Why 12 Episodes Raised Questions

The Cameo clip quickly circulated on X, with Walsh saying, “I think we are doing 12 this time.” That brief comment led to plenty of speculation about what Season 2 might look like.

Some fans wondered whether the production could be filming two seasons at once. Others considered the possibility that Season 2 could contain 12 episodes or be divided into two parts.

The uncertainty comes from earlier comments by creator Jacob Tierney. In February, Tierney, 46, told the Los Angeles Times that he preferred keeping each season focused rather than stretching the story across a larger episode count.

“I don’t need to do 10 [episodes in a season],” Tierney said. “I would always rather tighten the belt than get loosey-goosey.”

The Connection to “The Long Game”

Walsh’s accidental reveal has an amusing connection to Reid’s sequel, “The Long Game.” The story itself features a celebrity video app, making the Cameo situation particularly fitting for fans familiar with the books.

“Heated Rivalry” follows hockey players Shane Hollander, played by Hudson Williams, and Ilya Rozanov, played by Connor Storrie. Their relationship develops from intense sporting rivalry into romance.

Tierney has also described “The Long Game” as a different adaptation challenge. During BookCon 2026 in New York City in April, he said the sequel moves into more serious territory while still retaining flirting and sexual elements.

For now, Walsh’s comments should not be treated as confirmation of a 12-episode Season 2. No official episode count or production schedule was announced through his Cameo video. Until the production releases verified details, the episode total remains uncertain.

Walsh’s clarification puts the focus back on official announcements while showing how quickly an informal comment can fuel speculation around a closely followed series.
