Adieu New York, for you shan’t see Kate Winslet anytime soon!
After gushing over her husband Edward Abel Smith in the latest New York Times interview, Kate Winslet might want to stay in England and spend some more quality time with her family. At least, that’s what her recent house sale indicates.
Lately, the Titanic star has been busy unloading her longtime Manhattan penthouse. And if we were to go by the New York Post‘s report, she has successfully sold her apartment for $5.3 million to an anonymous buyer.
Hop on to know more about her ex-apartment.
A look back in time
Winslet bought this property in 2004 when she was married to Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes. The couple had reportedly paid $4.995 million to put this duplex to their name. They co-owned the property till 2012, after which the Titanic star purchased her ex-husband’s shares and transformed the apartment into a $30,000 per month rental.
She used the place as a rental for more than seven years before listing it in 2020 for a $5.7 million asking price. Even though the actress didn’t get her desired asking price, she settled with $5.3 million, neither making a profit nor a big loss.
Inside the apartment
The condo spreads over 3,000 sq. ft., consisting of four beds and three and a half baths. It has 13-foot tall ceilings, whitewashed wide-plank oak floors, and more than two dozen oversized windows offering beautiful views of “the City that Never Sleeps.” It begins with a narrow entrance hall and leads towards the 47-foot-long and 24-foot-wide great room.
The great room incorporates a chef’s kitchen, a cozy dining area, a roomy living space, and a gas fireplace. The kitchen flaunts chic timber cabinetry with several stainless steel appliances and a large island countertop, whereas the dining space includes a six-seater dinner table.
Close to the end of the entrance is the master bedroom, which has an attached bathroom, a walk-in closet, and direct access to the 1,700 sq. ft. terrace with incredible views of the Hudson River and the Big Apple’s skyline.
The two other bedrooms located across the hall also offer a spacious living area, but they come with a shared bathroom. The terrace also provides a lot of scope for an additional bedroom, office, or lounging area.
What is Winslet up to nowadays?
Currently, the Mare of Easttown star is staying in the UK with her husband and seven-year-old son. She is living in a 17th-century house established near the English seaside village of West Wittering, West Sussex. It’s the same house that the 45-year-old actress purchased in 2013 for $4.6 million.
