With her witty quips and fast comebacks, there’s no doubt that comedian Ellen DeGeneres is a smart woman. That’s why it’s quite interesting to know what she’s up to when she decided to sell a massive property she just bought months ago.
Is it just the buyer’s remorse or something much more calculated?
Breathtaking Mansion
Just six months after purchasing her 5,100-square-feet Beverly Hills home, Degeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi are putting it up for sale for $17.95 million.
Sitting on the hills of the Trousdale Estates, the Old Hollywood-style property was originally purchased by the couple for $15 million last year.
The home was originally built in 1962 and used to be the abode of former actress Marjorie Lord. According to its listing, the five-bedroom house is inspired by the Hollywood Regency style.
It boasts of breathtaking views from almost every room in the house from its covered patio to its spacious living room. The property also seems to be great for entertaining guests with its new swimming pool and spa-like bathrooms in the bedrooms.
While the house is outwardly grand, small details like wooden accents give the place an extra oomph. It features carved wood-paneled ceilings, Pullman doors and white columns in the patio area.
House Flipping
Although the Trousdale Estates home is a fine piece of property, DeGeneres might have sold it as part of her house flipping hobby. The host herself hasn’t released any statement confirming this. But looking at her track record of buying and selling beautiful homes, it seems to be the case.
DeGeneres has turned in large profits from renovating various real estate properties and selling them to fellow rich personalities over the years. According to reports, the 61-year-old has allegedly sold houses to the likes of Tim Cook, the CEO of Google, and Hollywood producer Ryan Seacrest.
Her most recent purchase is a $27 million mansion in Montecito, California. This came right after she successfully flipped a $34 million property located in the same area last year. DeGeneres has bought and sold around 20 houses since she began her hobby.
According to the comedian, she personally enjoys doing renovations and being able to live in beautiful houses that feature different design styles. Thus, she and her wife are always on the hunt for new houses to live in, upgrade and eventually sell. She shares inside information of her house flipping deals and scores in a book called Home.
DeGeneres herself has previously admitted that her passion for massive and impressive homes is a result of her upbringing. She may be a millionaire now but the household name grew up living in small apartments because her parents couldn’t afford a house at the time.
