It’s official. Adele has really called it quits with her husband Simon Konecki and their divorce is on the way.
Still, a lot of things about their split remain unclear. For one, the couple has not made any statements yet about the reason of their separation after eight years together. However, a source just came out to reveal what ended their relationship.
Too Busy?
According to an unnamed source, the British singer’s relationship with her husband and partner of eight years became strained when her busy schedule got in the way of things.
Apparently, the couple began well having a lot in common with each other but slowly drifted apart after Adele’s career grew more successfully. While Konecki was initially fine with being in the background, the constant traveling for tours and concerts took a toll on them.
Despite the more dramatic speculations circulating around, the source also assured fans that the two parted on good terms. In the end, the source said that Adele and Konecki’s marriage was going well until they decided that things weren’t working anymore and ended it.
Neither Adele or her ex has released any other statement except the one that came from the singer’s managers. This statement only confirmed the couple’s split with not much follow up details except that they’re still going to raise their 6-year-old son Angelo together.
No Prenup
Separating with no hard feelings against each other, Adele and Konecki reportedly want to keep their $180 million divorce quick and clean. However, it may be inevitable that the singer will spend quite a lot of money to make it happen.
As several British news outlets have revealed, the couple did not sign a prenuptial agreement. This led to the speculation that her soon-to-be ex-husband might be entitled to almost half of the singer’s earnings especially if they file for divorce in California where Konecki’s business headquarters and their Los Angeles home are.
British divorce attorney, Sandra Davis, corroborate this possible outcome in an interview with the UK Times. Known for representing the late Princess Diana, Davis said that it’s likely that Adele and Konecki’s earnings will be split 50/50 no matter how big or little they contributed to the total amount.
However, another lawyer, Suzanne Kingston may have good news for Adele. Apparently, the British crooner can claim her musical talent to be ‘effectively genius’ so she can get more of their total earnings as a couple.
Adele’s Fortune
While the details of her divorce are still unclear, one thing’s for sure. Adele has a lot to lose in the event of a 50/50 split.
According to the Sunday Times’ yearly Rich List, where she ranks 30th, the singer has an estimated fortune of $182 million (or £140 million) in her name. Most of her millions came from profits off her successful concert tours and album sales.
