One of the biggest names involved in the recent college admissions bribery controversy nicknamed Operation Varsity Blues are celebrity couple Felicity Huffman and William H. Macy.
As Huffman faces her day in court and faces the possibility of prison time for her alleged participation in the cheating scandal, new information about their multimillion real estate portfolio was uncovered at court.
Expansive Real Estate Portfolio
According to reports, Huffman and Macy have amassed properties all over the United States totaling to about $20 million.
This expansive portfolio includes a 27-acre estate located in Little Woody Creek, Colorado among others. Here, the Desperate Housewives actress constructed a home that’s an exact copy of the childhood house she grew up in on the very spot where it once stood. The original house had to be demolished because it did not meet the building code in the area.
However, the couple added more modern features to their ‘old-new’ home and expanded its area to about 100 feet. Growing up, Huffman’s family didn’t have much and she had to share one bathroom with her six sisters. In her childhood home’s new reincarnation, she has a bathroom built for each of the five bedrooms. According to estimates, the Colorado home is valued at $10 million.
The couple also owns a couple of properties in Los Angeles. Included here is the 4,566 square foot home they bought together after Huffman wrapped up shooting for Desperate Housewives. The five-bedroom house used to be owned by Gore Vidal and Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe.
Huffman and Macy were initially just living next to it but decided to buy the house eventually. Combined, their two mansions take up three acres with the two-lot compound being valued at around $8 million.
Some of the couple’s homes have also been featured in magazine spreads at Architectural Digest. Back in 2000, the restoration of their former house in the Hancock Park area was profiled in the magazine. The 1920’s Mediterranean style house was their first home after they married in 1997.
The smallest of Huffman and Macy’s properties is a small cabin in Vermont which Macy picked because it was near Goddard College where he went to school. However, it’s worth noting that the cabin was purchased in the 1980s way before the two met.
Current Controversy
Huffman is facing charges after it was discovered that she ‘donated’ $15,000 to a bogus charity to facilitate the improvement of her eldest daughter’s SAT scores. According to reports, the bribe allowed the actress to change the site of her daughter’s exams so she can have more time to complete the test. This also meant that her assigned proctor was someone in on the plan.
After the revelation, Huffman was arrested but was eventually released on a $1 million bond. She is currently facing bribery charges and a potential five years in prison. Meanwhile, her actor husband hasn’t been charged yet in relation to the scandal.
